The Lay Clergy Love Fund is funded by the Thrift Store, private donations and foundations. Because of this we have more flexibility of where we can apply our funds in order to assist an individual. We are not able to provide housing or rent assistance. Our most common form of assistance is with utility bills. Over 50 families each year receive help with a utility bill.
School Supply Collection and Distribution: Applications are taken at the Thrift Store in June. Community Bank of Pleasant Hill, Dollar Sense, the Optimist Club and Bright Futures are the largest supporters of this program. The Member Churches also have school supply drives to fill in items that are needed. The Pleasant Hill School District has implemented a confidentialcommunication method, where the school counselor can identify a child that does not have school supplies, contact the district secretary, she contacts TLC and supplies are provided. It has to be about the child having what they need to succeed. If children enter the school district mid year, we are also able to assist then. Extra items are also donated to the teachers for use in their classrooms.
Angel Tree is the program to make sure that all children in our community receive gifts for Christmas. Applications to receive gifts are taken at the Thrift Store for the month of November. Families are kept together and put on an “angel”. These angels are taken to our partner, The City of Pleasant Hill, at 203 Paul Street. Families, individuals and groups then “adopt” an angel off the tree, purchase and wrap gifts and return it to city hall. The Lay Clergy ensures that all children are adopted and for the distribution of gifts. Individuals that are unable to adopt an angel are welcome to donate to the angel tree and those funds will be used to purchase gifts for children not taken from the tree. Gifts are provided to over 100 children annually. The picture is of gifts bagged by family, ready to be distributed at Grace Family Fellowship. They have let us use their fellowship hall for several years to have a place large enough for this program.
Funding: is provided by income generated from the Thrift Store, the Peculair Charitable Foundation, donations from member churches, and the Sharing of the Green yearly fundraiser.
